Winter, a time for (veggie) stew!

March is the time of year when it seems that Winter should be over, or almost over anyway.  But, here in the North East, this month is very hard to predict....then again, this whole season has been that way so far!  It has been unnaturally warm the past couple of weeks, and it appears this weekend will be unusually cold...sooo, a great time for STEW!  I am not talking about a heavy stew with lots of meat and potatoes.  The stew I want to make is light and comforting, using vegetables associated with the season, beans and quinoa to make it a complete meal.  Delicious with a crusty loaf of bread and Green Salad, or just on its own with a glass of your [...]

Thanksgiving 2016

Thanksgiving time is all about family, friends and FOOD!  I have always loved Thanksgiving and ,whether I have a table full of guests or a small gathering, I always insist on making way more food than is needed.  Of course, there is the turkey, but that is not my focus, I am way more into the sides and all that go with the main act!  It can get overwhelming, I know, to figure out and prepare all of this food as well as do everything we feel we need to do to make house and table acceptable for guests.  To ease this pressure, here is a menu of sides and desserts for delivery or pick up during the week of Thanksgiving, helping you make [...]

Summertime, and the living’ is easy!

Ahhh, Summer!  I love the long days, how beautiful all the gardens look, wearing dresses and flip flops and, of course, the simplicity of the grill.  The heat of the season means lots of salads, cold food and never using a kitchen stove.  It also keeps us all outside, at the beach or just playing, much later in the day, which leaves me scrambling to figure out what to make for dinner.  As always, I want to use ingredients of the season, even better if I can find them locally and  two of my favorite foods for the summer are Peaches (obviously) and Sword Fish.  I only eat Sword Fish in the summer when I can get it from a local fish market, that [...]

Finally, Summer!

A few months ago it seemed as if we would never see Summer again, but, as always, it has arrived.   Summer is the time for outdoor gatherings, going to the beach, farmers markets, grilled food and lots of salads!  The best hot summer evening meal consists of something cooked on the grill (because who wants to turn on the stove...INSIDE?!) and a great salad full of fresh vegetables.  A salad can be as simple as buying those beautiful mixed greens from the local farm and adding your favorite dressing, or you can jazz it up with anything from tomatoes and cucumbers to cheese, nuts and fruit.  You could even include grains and proteins to make a one dish meal for a balmy evening [...]

Easter 2015 menu

Easter is just around the corner, which also means spring is about to arrive!  Not too soon either after the winter we have had here on the East Coast!  It also means time to get inspired for warmer weather food and, though we  have plenty of snow and the temperature is still hovering around 20, thinking about this Easter menu gave me hope that we will soon be enjoying some warmer times without having to turn on the oven!  Hippity, Hoppity Easter is on it's way!! Sides and Salads: -Mixed Greens Salad w/ Herbs, Cherry Tomatoes, Cucumber, Green Onions, Avocado and Lemon-Basil Vinaigrette -Frisee and Endive Salad w/ Roasted Beets, Gorgonzola, Pecans and Pomegranate Vinaigrette -Butter Lettuce and Spinach Salad w/ Red Onion, Grapefruit, [...]

Baby it’s cooold outside…so eat soup!

Just when we thought we were going to escape this year, Mother Nature decided to slam us here in New England with a healthy dose of the white stuff...not to mention that fun blizzard and then a flash freeze to dash any of our remaining delusions!  Lucky for us, we have soup!  I love making soup, and I make a lot of it the cooler months.  This was true in California as well as here in Eastern MA, everyone likes a warm bowl of soup on a chilly day.  The best thing about making soups, and stews as well, is you can truly make it up as you go along.  This happens more often than not in my kitchen, and is exactly how I [...]
